Lawn Care & Landscaping in Monroe Township
Monroe Township is the quieter corner southwest of Mechanicsburg: Churchtown, Brandtsville and Williams Grove along the Yellow Breeches, with South Mountain rising at the south end. Good to Know
Yard Work Rules in Monroe Township.
Local rules that come up with lawn, leaf, snow and patio work, with the source for each. Dates change year to year, so check the source before you plan around one.
Leaves and yard waste
There's no township leaf pickup. Yard waste goes out with the weekly trash through the township's hauler, curbside by 6 a.m. For a big leaf drop or an overgrown area, a fall cleanup hauls it all away.
Patios, walls and new hard surface
The township's zoning permit covers fences, grading, paving, sidewalks and slabs, and its 2024 zoning ordinance asks for a permit for any new impervious area over 200 square feet, and for retaining walls. Call the zoning officer before a patio, walkway or wall starts.

Open burning
Burning brush needs a 30-day township permit, stays 50 feet from property lines and buildings, runs sunrise to sunset and never on Sundays, and isn't allowed at all in the Conservation Zone or during a county burn ban. When burning isn't practical, brush removal takes the pile away.

Storm drains and the creek
The township's stormwater program asks residents never to dump anything down a storm drain or into a stream, and to compost yard waste. Every mowing visit ends with clippings blown off the pavement, not into the gutter.
