  • Leaf collection

    The borough vacuums leaves from early October into early December on an alternating schedule for the streets north and south of Walnut Street, ending after the first significant snowfall. Sweep them into the street at the curb, with no trash or sticks in the piles. A fall cleanup hauls them away instead.

  • Yard waste

    Trash is collected Wednesdays by Harrisburg Public Works, and yard waste on the fourth Thursday of the month from April through October, one brown yard waste container per household, with no grass clippings in it.

  • Street trees

    Planting or removing a tree in the strip along the street takes written approval from the borough, and branches clear 8 feet over the sidewalk, 12 feet over the curb line and 15 feet over the center of the street (§ 63-2).

  • Permits

    The borough issues zoning permits ($65) for fences, sheds and other accessory structures, and separate building permits under the state code. Ask the borough before a patio, walkway or wall starts.

  • Snow

    The borough's code has a snow and ice removal article for sidewalks (Chapter 230); check it for the current deadline, and set up snow removal for the driveway before the first storm.
