Steelton, Dauphin County
Lawn Care & Landscaping in Steelton
Steelton runs along the east bank of the Susquehanna a few miles below Harrisburg: rowhomes and narrow lots on the hill above Front Street, with small front beds, shared side yards and a lot of sidewalk to keep clear. The work here is tidy and regular rather than big.
We're based across the river in Mechanicsburg and cover Harrisburg and its river boroughs. We mow, fertilize and treat weeds, mulch, trim shrubs and hedges, do seasonal cleanups, build small patios and walkways and plow driveways and small lots for homes and businesses. The owner is on site for every job.

Good to Know
Yard Work Rules in Steelton.
Local rules that come up with lawn, leaf, snow and patio work, with the source for each. Dates change year to year, so check the source before you plan around one.
Yard waste
Trash and yard waste are collected Wednesdays under the borough's contract with the City of Harrisburg. Clippings and wood waste go in tied bundles up to four feet and 40 pounds and aren't counted as trash; leaf waste is set out separately as the borough directs, and grass clippings aren't leaf waste. A fall cleanup hauls the leaves away instead.

Sidewalks after a snow
Borough code gives owners 24 hours after snow stops to clear at least half the sidewalk, and the snow can't go into the street or alley; fines run $300 to $600 (§ 94-22). Parking is restricted on the borough's snow emergency routes during an emergency. Set up snow removal before the first storm.

Permits and fences
A building or zoning permit is required before erecting or altering any structure (§ 120-80). Front-yard fences and walls top out at three and a half feet, and side and rear ones at six (§ 120-14). Under 1,000 square feet of new hard surface needs no stormwater submission (§ 93-11). Ask the borough's codes department before a patio, walkway or wall starts.

Grass height
Grass and weeds may not exceed eight inches under the borough's property maintenance code (Chapter 82). A weekly or biweekly mowing schedule keeps you well under it.

Street trees and burning
Cutting, pruning or removing a shade tree along a public street takes a permit from the borough's Shade Tree Commission, and branches clear nine feet over the walk or road (Chapter 107). Burning waste outdoors is a nuisance under borough code, except for cooking.
