Good to Know

How we mulch

Two to three inches of mulch is enough to hold moisture and hold back weeds. Piling it deeper, or up against tree trunks and siding, invites rot and pests, so we keep it off trunks and away from the house.

Spring is the most popular time to mulch, but a fall top-off works well too, especially after a fall cleanup.

What color mulch do you use?

Black, brown, and red are the common choices. Tell us what you'd like, or keep what's already there.

Do you remove the old mulch?

If it's built up too deep, yes. Otherwise we clean up the bed and top it off.

Can you weed the beds between mulchings?

Yes. Bed weeding can be part of regular maintenance or a one-time cleanup.
