Lawn Seeding & Overseeding in Mechanicsburg and Cumberland County
Thin, patchy lawns fill in when seed goes down at the right time, on soil that's ready for it. Overseeding thickens an existing lawn; seeding bare areas brings back spots lost to shade, traffic, grubs, or a hot summer.
We seed and overseed lawns across Cumberland County and the Harrisburg area, and we'll tell you whether a lawn needs overseeding or a bigger renovation.

The Service
What seeding includes
- A look at the lawn and the likely cause of the thin areas

- Overseeding across thin lawns to thicken them
- Watering guidance for the weeks after seeding
- Coordination with fertilization and weed control so they don't work against the seed
Good to Know
When to seed
Late August through September is the best window for seeding cool-season grass in central Pennsylvania. The soil is still warm, nights are cooler, and new grass has the fall to establish before winter. Spring seeding works too, but the grass has less time before summer heat.
Most lawns here are tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, or a mix. We match the seed to what's already growing so the new grass blends in.
Questions
Common Questions.
Something else? Call or text (717) 908-2730.
How long before I can mow new grass?
Usually once the new grass reaches mowing height, often three to four weeks after seeding. We'll tell you when it's ready, and regular mowing can pick up from there.
How much do I need to water?
New seed needs the top of the soil kept moist until it sprouts, which usually means light watering once or twice a day at first, then deeper and less often as it grows in.
Can I seed and control weeds at the same time?
Some weed control products stop seed from sprouting, so we plan them together. Tell us about both on the quote form.
My lawn is mostly weeds. Is overseeding enough?
Sometimes. Sometimes it takes a renovation first. We'll look at it with you and recommend the right approach.
