Leaves and yard waste

There's no separate borough leaf pickup. Leaves and yard waste go out in bags with the weekly trash and count toward the weekly bag limit. A fall cleanup hauls the leaves away instead.

Sidewalks after a snow

Borough code gives owners 24 hours after snow, sleet or freezing rain stops to clear a path at least 36 inches wide (§ 21-102). Snow emergency routes include Baltimore Street, York Street, Harrisburg Street, the Harrisburg Pike and Second Street. Set up snow removal for the driveway before the first storm.

Trees and shrubs over the walk

Borough code asks for at least 8 feet of clearance above the sidewalk and 14 feet above the street (§ 10-101). Shrub and hedge trimming keeps overgrown shrubs off the walk.

Clippings and storm drains

The borough's stormwater report asks residents to keep grass clippings and leaves out of storm drain inlets after mowing. Every mowing visit ends with clippings blown off walks and drives.

The borough enforces the state building code through its building code officer. Call the borough office before a patio, walkway or wall project to ask what's needed.
