Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County
Serving Mechanicsburg and the Townships Around It
Mechanicsburg is home base. The borough itself is compact, with older lots and tree-lined streets, and most of the addresses that say Mechanicsburg are in the townships around it: Hampden and Silver Spring to the north and west, Upper Allen and Monroe to the south.
We mow, fertilize and treat weeds, seed, mulch, trim shrubs, do seasonal cleanups, build small patios and walls, clear brush and plow driveways for homes and businesses across all of it. The owner is on site for every job.

Good to Know
Yard Work Rules in Mechanicsburg.
Local rules that come up with lawn, leaf, snow and patio work, with the source for each. Dates change year to year, so check the source before you plan around one.
Fall leaf collection
The borough collects loose leaves from the pavement along the curb on your trash day, from about the third week of October through the first week of December. Don't bag them, and keep limbs, garden waste and hard objects out of the piles. A fall cleanup hauls them away instead.

Compost facility
Borough and Silver Spring Township residents can take leaves, brush and shrub clippings to the joint compost facility on West Church Road with a $30 annual access card. Grass clippings and bags aren't accepted, and commercial landscapers can't use it, so anything we cut leaves with us.

Sidewalks after a snow
Borough code gives owners 24 hours after snow or ice stops to clear the sidewalk to at least four feet wide, and the snow can't go into the street (§ 5-603.10). Set up snow removal for the driveway before the first storm.

Patios and hardscape coverage
The borough's Codes and Zoning office issues a zoning permit for fences, accessory structures and any change to the hardscape coverage on a property, and permits are reviewed under the state building code. Ask before a patio, walkway or wall starts. Small projects that add under 1,000 square feet of hard surface on a typical lot and sit 10 feet back from the lines are exempt from the stormwater controls (§ 26-113).

Street trees
Trees in the tree lawn between the sidewalk and the curb are under the borough's Shade Tree Commission. Planting, trimming or removing one takes a permit first, branches have to clear 14 feet over the street and 8 feet over the sidewalk, and a removed tree is replaced within a year (Chapter 25).

Grass height and burning
Grass or weeds over six inches are a nuisance under borough code (§ 5-603.4), and open burning is banned in the borough, so leaves and brush have to be collected or hauled. A weekly or biweekly mowing schedule keeps the lawn well under the limit.
