Good to Know
Yard Work Rules in Fairview Township.
Local rules that come up with lawn, leaf, snow and patio work, with the source for each. Dates change year to year, so check the source before you plan around one.
Leaf collection
The township picks up leaves weekly from the last week of October into early December. Put them along the curb in loose piles by Monday morning; grass clippings don't count as leaf waste (§ 247-18). A fall cleanup hauls them away instead.

Yard waste
Curbside yard waste goes out by 6 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month, April through November, in containers or tied bundles no longer than 4 feet and 40 pounds; grass clippings aren't collected. The drop-off on Spanglers Mill Road is for township residents with residential trash service. Bigger piles are a brush removal job.

Sidewalks after a snow: 12 hours
Township code gives owners 12 hours after snow stops to clear the sidewalk, or until 10 a.m. the next morning if it stops by 6 p.m. (§ 255-24). Putting snow onto a cleared street by shoveling, plowing or blowing is unlawful, and the owner is presumed responsible (§ 255-16). In a declared snow emergency, every street in the township is a snow emergency route with no parking (Chapter 282). Set up snow removal before the first storm.

Patios and stormwater
The township counts patios, sidewalks and compacted stone as impervious. Under 400 square feet of added hard surface may be exempt with a fee in lieu, and residential projects up to 1,000 square feet need volume control only (§ 252-11). Coverage tops out at 40 percent in the RS district, and a zoning permit covers any project that expands the exterior area of a site. Ask the township before a patio, walkway or wall starts.

Grass height
Grass and weeds have to be kept at eight inches or less under township code (§ 215-3). A weekly or biweekly mowing schedule keeps you well under it.
Trees and burning
Branches have to clear 14 feet over the road and 8 feet over the sidewalk (§ 273-3). Open burning is generally prohibited, and the township's curbside pickup and yard waste facility are meant to replace burning yard debris (Chapter 101).
